Today we would like to introduce you to Very Local Trip. It is a pretty cool concept that challenges the traditional tourism industry in a unique way…
that connects travellers seeking unique/local experiences and “local friends” looking to make additional income by providing their own customized local experiences and friendly companionship.
explains: “I started getting a lot of Facebook messages from friends, and friends of friends, asking me: “Hey, I saw you live in Bangkok and I’m coming to Thailand soon. Do you have any recommendations for nice places to visit? Something off the beaten track? Through these messages, I realized that there was a real demand in people wanting to travel and feel like a local rather than like a tourist. Travellers want to connect with someone who is living in the place they visit– whether that person is a local or an expat. So I started thinking about how I could connect travellers with locals via a platform.”
With 12 years of experience in the Pharma/Biotech/Healthcare industry in France and Thailand, Maxime is also a freelance consultant for several international Public and Private organizations in the field of vector-borne diseases prevention such as Malaria. Passionate about travelling and multi-cultural exchanges, Maxime has been living in Bangkok for the last 6 years and founded Very Local trip in May 2014. Very Local Trip’s team is also a real melt pot of ethnicities: covering the Philippines, Japan, Canada, France, Russia, Australia, Spain, and the USA, the team brings a strong international energy with a very large scope of vision and open-mindedness as well as a big global outreach.
as of now, and range from food tours in Chinatown, bicycle tours in the “lungs of Bangkok”, to Muay Thai lessons. “Very Local Trip’s visions are to help travelers discover a destination differently, promote local cultures and traditions and contribute to the local development and encourage individual interactions with local communities”, said Maxime. The team is currently boosting their efforts into diversifying their portfolio by offering community and eco-tourism experiences, such as one of their latest addition to the list, the 2 days / 1 night immersive village trip in Sakon Nakhon, the ‘City of Indigo’. “Visitors will be able to live an authentic experience on how Thai indigenous communities preserve their traditions and heritage of Indigo dyeing and weaving with the ancient looms!” said Maxime with much enthusiasm.
Very Local Trip had been financing themselves but have recently decided to take the company to the next level. That’s why they have started a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo in order to raise funds to improve their website and capitalize on their digital marketing:
“I want people to hear about us all around the world one day”, shared Maxime.
